Chiropractic has helped millions of people get their lives back. But is Chiropractic scientific or is it some form of dark art?
The scientific method has revolutionised healthcare. Large-scale, tightly controlled studies can find which antibiotic is most effective for which disease and can reveal the healthiest diet. But what can science tell us about Chiropractic? Hundreds of studies have been done, what treatments do they recommend?
In 2018, The Lancet (the world’s most prestigious scientific medical journal) reviewed all the scientific studies of back pain treatments. Here’s what they found:
- Prescribed pain killers are commonly ineffective and potentially harmful but are still over-prescribed.
- Surgery should play a limited role and be reserved for rare and extreme cases.
- Low back pain is being widely mismanaged medically.
The Lancet review also outlined the treatments that actually work. They found the scientific studies instead recommended Chiropractic treatments such as:
- Spinal Manipulation (Chiropractic Adjustments)
- Massage
- Acupuncture / Dry Needling
- Rehabilitation Exercises
The scientific literature also recommends the use of these Chiropractic treatments for neck pain and headaches, as well as most musculoskeletal injuries. So rest assured, when you see your Chiropractor, the science is on your side.
